Arrangement coincides with Ashland’s launch of new products for the sports enthusiast and active lifestyle segments at Supply Side West.
Clasado BioSciences, a leading international biotechnology company that develops advanced prebiotics and provides solutions for food, healthcare and pharmaceuticals companies across the global wellness market. The business has signed a licensing agreement with global speciality chemicals company Ashland. Under the agreement, Ashland has exclusive rights to distribute Bimuno® prebiotics in the North American market.
Bimuno® is a daily prebiotic supplement containing a unique active ingredient, a patent-protected blend of galactooligosaccharides (GOS), which feeds and stimulates the growth of good bacteria, bifidobacteria, in the gut within seven days. Galactooligosaccharides are derived from lactose, a natural ingredient in cow’s milk. GOS reaches the large intestine intact where it feeds the good bacteria in the gut and helps them thrive, supporting the development of a healthy gut microbiome.
Suitable for use in a range of commercial applications including human food and dietary supplements, Bimuno® is the result of intensive research and development conducted in collaboration with globally recognised research institutes including the University of Reading and King's College London. Bimuno® has been shown in pre-clinical and clinical studies to have unique modes of action including the ability to rebalance the gut microbiota, bolster immune health, including directly protecting against pathogens, and combating chronic inflammation in the body.
“Our licensing agreement with Ashland is a great commercial opportunity to promote Bimuno® and its many benefits across a new market” said Per Rehné, CEO, Clasado BioSciences.
“North America is a crucial geography in global prebiotic innovation, forecast for strong continued growth. It is a focal point of research, particularly with regards to how prebiotic ingredients can contribute
to new product development, and we look forward to being part of it with Ashland as our distribution partner.”
“Consumers know that a healthy balanced diet, rich in fibre can help achieve an optimally balanced gut which can lead to better health, but most consumers aren’t eating the proper foods to ensure balance,” said Brian McGrath, Health and Wellness Vice President at Ashland. “The Bimuno® prebiotic ingredient has a number of health benefits and we are excited to expand our ever-growing portfolio of specialty solutions. Clasado BioSciences has a global leading position in the research of gut mediated wellness solutions, including global patent protected technologies. We are thrilled to partner with them in the North American market.”
The announcement comes as Ashland introduces several versatile new ingredients for the self-directed, sports-minded consumer during the Supply Side West Trade Show, October 15 – 19 in Las Vegas, supported at the show by Clasado. The new ingredients can be used in a variety of applications including keto diets. They target muscle recovery, joint comfort and weight management. For more information, visit ashland.com/bimuno
